  •  The corporate media won't cover things (24+ / 0-)

that do not fit into their pre-ordained narrative. I had a chat with the conservative columnist John Fund at Netroots Nation. I showed him what we were doing at NTFF. Even though he seemed interested, I knew that he would not cover it because it is not part of his established narrative. Conservatives don't want to hear that lefties raised over $50k to send boxes to the troops. I suspect that any rally will get the same kind on non-coverage.

    •  BUT, we have Obama, a guaranteed photo op (7+ / 0-)

If he was in town, and the march went near his house, heck, spur of the moment he'll go for a cheezbugr, why wouldn't he greet US??

Gimmicks, you could have a syncronized 13 minute "sit in", at a pre ordained time, everybody stop and sit on their asses.  Show what COULD happen.

You could take along a small spike, to fasten your sign to, and sink it into the grass at Lafayette Park.

10,000 signs, across from the WH, would be another photo op.

I don't think Obama would ignore SUPPORT, and his handshaking will make the newz.

        Saturday Sept. 19?

That would allow for more organizing time.

It would also make it easier for a lot of people to get there.  Sunday is tricky for many.

And it would put some space between the teabaggers and this event.  Otherwise I fear the two will simply be equated in the media narrative.

    •  No, I'm sure they dont want to deal with reality. (6+ / 0-)

Conservatives don't want to hear that lefties raised over $50k to send boxes to the troops.

Because that would screw up their concept of liberals being unpatriotic and against the troops since we want the troops home safe with their families and out of the way of harm and potential/inevitable PTSD and life long physical disabilities from illegal wars. And wanting the troops home and safe is just so unpatriotic in the Conservative mind.

As for a March on Washington....Dear Hubby and I will definitely be there for anything that supports getting a Public Option and getting affordable health care for all. We have no excuse not to attend since we live 5 miles from the WH.

and see what he wrote about us. All I could turn up with a quick search was this - pretty much what I expected.

He chose the perfect panel to attend, to reinforce his preconceptions, and then cherrypicked every statement he heard. Figures.

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

A year ago June, we had a large local rally at SF's Moscone Center. 1,000 (conservative estimate) showed up to picket at annual convention of AHIP (the health-insurance industry group). We had a lot of advance publicity on this thing. Did the San Francisco Comical devote any coverage to it? Sure. A paragraph, in the "C" Section.

The San Francisco Comical is a Hearst Co. rag. It is dying. It will founder all the faster, because its corporate story-lines are more important to it than real coverage of the community.

    •  So John Fund really does exist?! (2+ / 0-)

He seems so comical in his delivery.  And looks like he was crafted from errant bits scraped from Web Hubbell.  One never hears about liberals/progressives doing things for the troops.

Funny.  He does kind of look like Webb.  And didn't Fund once get in trouble for banging a mother and daughter at the same time?  Yikes.  I'd hate to find out the womens' motivation on that.
