to just say, "DeLay, Frist, same difference".

To be clear, they are both goodfellows, Frist and DeLay (DeLay has called Abramoff "one of his closest and dearest friends").  Frist's brother, Dr. Thomas Frist, who replaced Rick Scott, is also a made man.

The founders of HCA included two members of the Frist family, which became very wealthy as a result[citation needed]. The former majority leader of the U.S. Senate, Bill Frist is a member of the family but sold all his HCA shares in 2005. Most of his $20 million (or more) personal fortune was made through his holdings in HCA.

In the late-1990s, after a merger with Louisville-based Columbia Hospital Corporation which formed Columbia/HCA, the company was investigated by the government for Medicare and Medicaid fraud and paid a settlement of $1.7 billion, the largest fraud settlement in US history at the time.

Is it any wonder that Rick Scott is not behind bars?

Scott's clout in DC was unrivaled.  More clout than Enron's gang, which is probably why much of Enron's gang ended up in prison, while Scott is on TV and in the press telling us that health care reform is a bad idea.

Instead Scott is free to roam around killing and fleecing more Americans through his opposition to health care reform.

I need a doctor right now.  He makes me sick.  Not to worry, I have insurance and a bottle of pain relievers, but this country is going bankrupt over health care and Americans are dying.

I agree with what someone else said recently:  "It makes little difference if Bin Laden's Al Qaida or Cancer is killing Americans;  government needs to provide protection from death".

      •  Oh yeah, you're the one who posted that great (0+ / 0-)

diary w/ DC photos and insider nuanced commentary, huh?

Yeah, someone should commission some creepy, crawly sculptures to go alongside the donkeys and elephants.

Maybe worms or snakes to represent the far-right.

Sorry worms and snakes; I don't mean to insult you low-down belly crawlers.

      •  I guess one could easily argue that Big Oil (0+ / 0-)

had more clout than Scott in DC, and probably a few others.

I'm guessing that Big Oil doesn't mind health care reform as it should improve their bottom line.

It would be helpful if at least a few large corporations got behind HC reform;  auto industry, energy, retailers, high-tech and other industries who don't stand to profit from the current racket.

Yecch...Rick Scott is on FOX now spewing again.

He did say something interesting earlier though; that Cleveland Clinic and many other hospitals paid fines for defrauding Medicare/Medicaid.  I guess this is the waste, fraud, and abuse of which BHO speaks.  It's probably rampant.

        •  waste fraud and abuse (0+ / 0-)

in medicare:  how much waste fraud and abuse?  and by whom?
