Herb Kelleher, the head of Southwest Airlines in Dallas from its inception about 35 years ago until last year, was instrumental that entire time in getting all talk of a high speed rail line between Dallas-Houston-San Antonio muzzled. The Republican governors have helped, especially Rick Perry, but I wouldn't have been surprised if Kelleher himself had been muzzled, if Bush with all of his Democratic mentors, Bob Bullock in particular, would have allowed such a thing. And you know the truth is, Southwest wouldn't have seen a dent in their profits AT ALL - the growth of our state (like our country) has been astronomical.

connecting DFW, Austin, San Antonio, and Houston would be wonderful - it would make day or overnight trips for sporting events, museum visiting, attending ballet/opera/plays, and festivals much easier, especially with Dallas and Houston now having serviceable light rail systems. I hate the Austin-Dallas drive, but I'd take the train up there in an instant.
