People I've regularly interacted with who were proud and confident after the election have now soured. That we've injected massive amounts of money into the banks, and now they're (allegedly) doing fine, while unemployment climbs and everyday life becomes less affordable and even terrifying has not gone unnoticed by those who once believed better days were on the way.

Describing people's life situation as a 'lagging indicator' may be all well and good for those who see life only through charts, graphs, and profit statements... but the 2010 ballot box may be the only means by which those lagging indicators make their reaction -- and response -- noted and heeded.

The fact is that the average man's love of liberty is nine-tenths imaginary, exactly like his love of sense, justice and truth. - H.L. Mencken

Most of the Dems in our neck of the woods are actually old guard, and they are as disappointed and pissed off as the progressives are.  All the progressives where talking about how the PO is their line in the sand, and the old guard is pissed off about all the money going to the banks with no regulation reform.  This is the group of the people who organize the GOTV calls.  It's not pretty out there.

They don't win until we give up.
