My sense of it is that Obama and the Dems poll ratings are going down because progressives are pissed off that more IS NOT being done.  But we are not so stupid as to sit out the next election, nor are we likely to vote for the Republican. Most people not terribly interested in politics that I know are not yet unhappy about the current state of affairs - or if they are unhappy, still blame Bush, the Republicans and Corporations for their unhappiness.

What I would like to see though, is how many vulnerable Dems could be challenged in a primary.

something and it needs to be a real success--something that will improve people's lives in a way they can feel over the next few years.  Not a bill that they can tout as a success only to see people's lives not getting better at all, and maybe getting worse.  That scenario will create unraveling support.

They must achieve something, and something that improves American's lives.  It need not be perfect, but it must be real enough to be felt.  Americans must feel progress is being made and that something is really changing.  Otherwise support for Obama, and by extension the Dems, will start unraveling and probably continue to do so for a while.

That said, I'm not predicting any 50-seat loss in the next election.  I think our doomsayers have gone more than a bit overboard.
