  •  I expect the Paulistas will support us on this. (5+ / 0-)

I held a large "STOP GOVERNMENT SPYING" placard outside both the Democratic and Republican Conventions a year ago. Got similar levels of expressed support.

(It wasn't so much Freedom of Speech supressed in St. Paul as Free Assembly. Working solo, I was allowed right beside the line of Delegates waiting to present their credentials.)

for SOME of them, namely the Paulites and other libertarians. But the Palinites? No way. They're all about cultural identity, not policy. And they will follow their leaders no matter what cliffs they jump off of. Get guvmint out of guvmint!

improves the chances of getting Republican votes for the bill.

        •  Well, considering the likelihood (0+ / 0-)

of Obama actively promoting such a bill these days, that's almost a moot point. :-)

But I have to say that at this point, I'm more worried about the likelihood of such a bill passing both houses, and being signed into law. For whatever reasons, this is one issue on which neocons still dominate, politically, and have a significant number of Dems (and nearly all Repubs) on their side, whether out of fear or ideology.

I'll guess we'll soon see just how many.
