    He was the child of a survivor. He spoke of his strange relationship with his mother constantly--I feel that what happened to his mother deeply scared him as well.

    In the weeks before his death (not that I knew it was the weeks before his death), I tried to find a  children of survivors group for him to meet with in his hometown, which was New York City. I could find no such group.

    I'm sure there were other factors that contributed to his depression, but when he died, I did feel that his death was another one chalked up to the Shoah.

    A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes.

      I'm sorry about what happened to your friend. He must have been in a lot of pain, and you must be too.

      It's hard to say if a group would have helped, second guessing and all that.

      I've never heard of a group either-- but even just knowing that survivor parents can be difficult- even if they don't mean to be- and that the trauma is passed down might have helped-- it helps me.

      I don't think it's a stretch to chalk this up to the Shoah.
