  •  hey hey (0+ / 0-)

Always like to hear what the DailyKos folks have to say.  Isn't it amazing how reality always seems to fit exactly with one's political beliefs?

Simply saying that you're looking at things with a "blank slate" or "non-partisan view" doesn't make it so.

I feel sorry for your clients.

I like where you note that our government is "politically controlled", as thought that was a bad thing. In the US, politically controlled means democracy. We elect the CEO of the federal government. I never get a chance to vote for an insurance company CEO. But then, you're not that crazy about democracy, are you ?

      •  politically controlled (0+ / 0-)

I state that as a fact, it has no moral basis.  What it means is that "the other side" will also one day control this non-profit... do you enjoy it when that happens?

And I assume you're being clever but please tell me you don't really think the President of the US is the equivalent to the CEO of the country.

        •  I have no problem with the "other side"... (2+ / 0-)

controlling the government -- that's what happens in a democracy. I work against it but it is inevitable. How many Republican administrations and majorities have we had since Medicare was created?

The other side worries, because like Medicare and Social Security and so on, this public option will be extremely popular. And they may be able to cut here or there but they will never get rid of it.

Of course you'd say that...you have the brainpan of a stagecoach tilter!

He's the head of the executive branch, he is responsible for running the federal government, and he does it for $400k.

          •  Truly frightening (0+ / 0-)

No, sorry.  Do you know what a CEO actually does?  Do you know of the powers designated to the President in the Constitution?

Is that there are still people who, when cornered, go scurrying off to the 10th Amendment.

Hey John, you've fallen victim to a kind of mindset that views all government as bad and all private enterprise as good. Here in the reality based community, we avoid absolutes of such a simplistic nature.

Right now, our problem is that the health insurers have achieved a monopoly and are exploiting that leverage in a number of ways. They raise premiums. They deny payments. They challenge diagnoses and refuse to allow requested treatments. All of these actions improve their profit margins.

The profit they capture is not returned to the consumer. Each year coverage is worse and it costs more. So the government needs to offer a plan that they will be forced to compete against.

              •  government is an abstraction (0+ / 0-)

It doesn't exist, it is an artificial entity just like a corporation.  These things are neither good nor bad... why do you cheer for a non-profit organization?  It is neither inherently good, or bad... as are for-profit organizations.

                •  Easy - peasy (0+ / 0-)

The non-profit as envisioned cannot rescind, must offer, and the insurance is portable. That's good.

                •  I know you think that sounds clever... (0+ / 0-)

but it really makes no sense. Government is not real because it is an artificial entity? What the fuck does that even mean?

Empowering a person or a group of people to make and enforce rules is a inseparable part of human nature. There have always been governments and there always will be. This libertarian ideology you are pushing is brand new in world history.
