    because it is consistently in the red.

    Personally, I adore USPS.  I ship a lot and receive a lot from using eBay. FedEx & UPS both take a week to get an item from Ohio to west coast.  USPS--two days for priority mail for about the same price as the other two.

    FedEx and UPS both charge customers a horrendous amount in some kind of surcharge when an item is delivered overseas.  USPS, no surcharges.  Customer only pays that country's customs fees, etc.

      USPS losses are at least in part because they refuse to close 'unprofitable' local POs that people do actually rely on.

      I have a good friend whose village lost home delivery.  She can only pick up her mail at the post office on Saturdays because they aren't open before or after her working hours.

      I'd rather live with unprofitability than lose service altogether.
