  •  A lot of wingnuts are making a constitutional (8+ / 0-)

argument against health care reform, claiming that the government doesn't have the constitutional right to do it. Which, of course, is rediculous (um, buh bye Air Force, Medicare and National Parks?). But are any of them even attempting to make what passes for a coherent (if still rediculous) constitutional argument against reform?

mandatory school attendance, back in the day.
"How dare the government insist  my child goes to school to get a basic education.  If I want to keep them dumb as a post, that's my right!"

For what do we live, but to make sport for our neighbours, and laugh at them in our turn?'' ...

is that they keep referring to "rights" that don't exist and aren't even hinted at in the constitution and cannot be reasonably inferred from it, while at the same time denying that the government has powers that are clearly granted or implied in it, and in no way forbidden. There is no "right" to not pay taxes or deny your kids a proper education. And the government absolutely has the power to tax people and build schools and force people to send their kids to them or otherwise educate them.

No country would be tenable otherwise. Only a fool would disagree.

          because they got nothin'.

          Nothin'.

We need two lists: those we will work to elect and those we will defeat. If you're not progressive, you're not a Democrat.
