Of just extremely selfish, mean-spirited people who will never sacrifice a single penny to help people less fortunate than they are.  In fact, the worst of them take delight in causing others discomfort.

We will not reach those people.

But what we can likely do is to peel off some of their 'fellow travelers', those people who are simply following their lead and haven't actually thought things through.

Any technique that causes one of these people to stop and reflect, to reach into themselves to find their basic humanity should be used, IMO.

I'm sure if one were able to talk to the 'tea baggers' on an individual basis you would find that some are decent people who simply haven't heard and understood both sides.

It's time for churches and religious people to start carrying the message of compassion and caring to those who seem to have forgotten it.

I was at a lovely tiny wedding this past weekend, with good people, and so much love all around.  At the reception, the talk wandered into politics and health care reform, and people started taking sides and ugliness ensued.  The common denominator of the ugliness was those people watched Fox News or listened to Rush Limbaugh, the poisoning, toxic brainwashing of good people.
