  •  Salida, the town, is very progressive. (1+ / 0-)

The county, Chaffee County, is old Colorado Republican.  Ranchers, farmers, old landowners...Reaganville. There is a federal prison in Buena Vista, big employer, Colorado Springs is next door...The paper reflects this.

Everyone I know in Salida supported Obama and most worked for the campaign.  We're doing what we can!

It is such a shame that Colorado Springs is such a beautiful little city and wacko beyond words. My husband is from Denver and we lived there for 12 years before moving to Farmington (big mistake). We still travel to Denver a few times a year and at times stop in Colorado Springs for the night.

It always stumps me as to why ranchers and farmers align themselves with Repugnuts. They are not friends of anyone that is not a large corporation.

cheap land leases the farmers and ranchers get.

can't remember what they called themselves back during the "anti owl preservation" madness -- sagebrush rebellion, or something like that?

        that's the answer.

I have not been close to the ranching and farming community being a city girl but was always curious about the conservative nature of the agricultural industry. Now I know.

Love your signature being a ex Texan. I always admired all on your list but Barbara Jordon she was especially special. I was so saddened when she passed.

    •  That's why I always remind people CO is purple (0+ / 0-)

We have strong blue pockets and strong red pockets, and a big chunk of independents who claim to rejects extremes on either side. So the politics reflect how the colors are overlapping and which tint the indies have on that particular issue or election.

I can't decide if that's one of the things I love about Colorado. The "Buy the World A Coke" guy lives next door to the "Marlboro Man". (Can you tell how old I am?)
