    same advice for everyone.

    in a recent diary, it actually devolved into a scorecard of atrocities in history adding up the body counts, and people declaring to each other "you have blood on your hands."

    you're right.  ducking responsibility was the wrong way to put it given the advice i ultimately ended up giving.

    don't let the not so good become the enemy of the nothing at all????

      "body count" arguments as much as anyone.  It's juvenile and distracts from civil discourse and meaningful debate.  I hate it when people assume I'm going to use that as a reason why religion is "bad," as if I live my life to condemn people for things they had no hand in.  It's the same reason I don't walk up to white people on the street and yell "you instituted slavery!"  I will, however, have a stern discussion with someone who tries to dismiss the impact of slavery or suggests it was not immoral.  There is the distinction that I think is often lost when people just to conclusions about atheists based on stereotypes.
