that is why we don't allow our police agencies to use it. The Inquisition used torture and they thought it was effective. They also assumed you were guilty and that if you weren't God would protect you.

I want a Republican to explain to me how effective torture is and then tell me how we should be using it on all terrorists, especially right-wing ones , like McVey and Broun.

Of course they would simply explain that torture is only effective when used against brown furriners.

Fail levels: fail, epic, epochal, eternal, Bush

To extract confessions, silence opposition, create a reign of terror, and in general to keep uppity peasants in their place.

Torture works great as a political tool in the hands of fascists.

      It's what they do.

This is why the Bush Administration was champing at the bit to implement a torture regime, like a dream come true at last.   They'd seen torture at work, in the hands of their dictator clients (Saddam Hussien, General Pinochet, the list goes on and on and on).  They'd marveled at the use of torture in the rendition dungeons of like-minded regimes around the world.

Bushco wanted some of that, and they grabbed it.

Please don't feed the Security State.
