  •  Here's the reason why I post on him from... (13+ / 0-)

...time to time: it's important to document his nuttiness. Like it or not, he's on one of the most powerful media outlets -- Fox. IMO, in order to make things like advertiser boycotts work, you also need to document the reasons for the boycott.

I also think it's important to show that he's a nut because it reflects on Fox as a whole.

But I do agree that he shouldn't be the exclusive or even central focus of progressives (not that he is).

    •  This goes back to the question... (6+ / 0-)

of whether it's better to ignore these people, or expose their lies and lunacy for all the world to see.

I lean towards the camp that says sunlight is the best disinfectant.  Inform others of their lies before they can be affected by them.  First impressions matter.  If you tell someone before they see Beck about his lies, and HOW he'll lie, that person will be much less likely to believe him if and when they ever see Beck on TV.  If not, they can be susceptible to be brainwashed.

I have some experience in this, in the matter of Andrew Jones at UCLA, who tried to intimidate professors at our school.  He was exposed early, and suddenly all the conservatives around him started distancing themselves from him.  Had he gone under the radar, he might have become the next Lee Atwater or Karl Rove.  Instead, he's considered a disgrace even among other Republicans.  Even Tucker Carlson was ripping him on his show when that happened.
