  •  if (when) Texas goes ... (6+ / 0-)

Democratic, the GOP is dead permanently (unless they completely reinvent themselves as a party).

    •  Texas will be blue in 8 years, just possibly 4 (0+ / 0-)

Demographics in Texas are trending our way. Before the end of Obama's second term it will likely be solidly purple if not on the populist side of blue.

This is inevitable. The more Hispanic that tier of states grows, the more Dem it becomes. The same process that happened in New Mexico and more recently in Arizona will be repeated in Texas.

What's amazing is how the Rethugs have to know this, they can count. But they don't seem to care that that they are losing these states, and Hispanic voters in general. Look how they gratuitously slammed Sotomayor. They had to know that would weaken any inroads they might make with Hispanic voters. But they did it anyway. Foot, meet shoot.

Not that I'm complaining about their doofus-tude. Nonetheless the next few Texas elections will be very interesting to watch.

The 60's led to a divide between the northern and southern democratic party and the southern democrats ultimately joined the Republicans. Meanwhile many of the northern Republicans wound up moving over to the Democratic party.

In some ways this is the Southerner's worse nightmare... A strong coalition of northern Yankees, blacks and immigrants taking over first the national government and then states such as Texas...
