even before there were smart phones. Back then, there were like 6 blogs on the entire internet. comeon...lets not use what was going on online in 2000 to gauge what blogging has become today. Hell, there was barely a google in 2000  and ceratinly no such thing as you tube.

but seriously, i guess i just dont see it the way you do. i dont feel as though what theyve been saying is driven by the fact that they are now getting paid to write. nor do i feel that the receptivity of this community to their writing/message would have been different whether they were gettig paid or not.

I guess what I;m saying is that this community seems to have a pretty good lock on what it believes politically and legislatively. I dont think its likely that a lobbyist or other "operative" could come on here with an agenda and "persuade" progressives to a point of view that they are opposed to fundamentally. And it wouldnt matter if that "operative" was on this blog 24/7 or not.  If their message is off, it wouldnt be received.

I guess that was my point.

My objection is to the unbalance in the discussion.  Maybe if two FDL lobbyist weren't being paid to be here (hired out of the community to begin with), we would have evolved more and better approaches to dealing with this.

We have failed epically on this issue, you know?  There aren't any great marches, any rising tide of public opinion.

I believe Eve and Slink are well intentioned, but I also think their disproportionate presence on this issue has prevented other (quite possibly better) approaches from getting examined.  That's what an echo chamber does, drowns out other ideas.

We've been very uncreative about this issue and the results haven't been very good.  But with two highly visible diarists paid to be here everyday, there hasn't been much space for questioning that approach.

Seriously.  Even without counting Slink and NYCEve, there are at least a dozen diaries a day on health care.  Some of them have radical and different ideas about action to take, some of those ideas have taken off.  Some of them haven't.  In the end it's still a people powered community, and the people power the ideas they agree with. That's all.

It's easier to get everybody together on "No." You all have to have the same reason for "Yes." You don't have to have the same reason for "No." -Barney Frank

is not what gets Slink and Eve on the rec list so often. We rec them for content.

Doesn't FDL raise it's funds from people like us that want a Public Option? That's not astroturf.
