being paid to write what they're writing, then that's astroturf. It's the very definition:

Astroturfing is a word in English describing formal political, advertising, or public relations campaigns seeking to create the impression of being spontaneous "grassroots" behavior, hence the reference to the artificial grass, AstroTurf.

The goal of such a campaign is to disguise the efforts of a political or commercial entity as an independent public reaction to some political entity—a politician, political group, product, service or event. Astroturfers attempt to orchestrate the actions of apparently diverse and geographically distributed individuals, by both overt ("outreach", "awareness", etc.) and covert (disinformation) means. Astroturfing may be undertaken by an individual pushing a personal agenda or highly organized professional groups with financial backing from large corporations, non-profits, or activist organizations. Very often the efforts are conducted by political consultants who also specialize in opposition research.

In this case, this is the very definition of astroturfing. They are being paid to push an agenda.

This brings up a lot of questions for me --

#1. What is the price one has to pay for a permanent daily spot on the rec list?

#2. Where is the donor disclosure? Who exactly is funding these employees? Is it Jane Hamsher personally? Is it Kos Media? Is it donations from readers? Is it a combination?

#3. slinkerwink got a DFA scholarship to Netroots Nation. Did she get that because she's getting paid by FDL (which is working in cooperation with DFA)? Or did she legitimately get the votes on the website like everyone else?

#4. Do those being paid agree with what they're posting? What happens if they don't? Whose opinions are they being paid to post? Jane Hamsher's? DFA? Some anonymous donor?

so, you think that if someone posts a front page article he/she is also astroturf? Because as far as I know, the regular front pagers here are paid bloggers.

      To your questions:

      1. You can't buy people reccing your diary, at least not in the numbers necessary to keep it at the No. 1 spot on the rec list.
      1. Well, they disclosed that they are paid by donations to the 'Public Plan fund' on FireDogLake.
      1. You know that Slink is popular here, don't you? It doubt that she got it because she works for FDL, but she wouldn't need it anyway, because the moment she applies for a scholarship, she gets 100 votes.
      1. You think Slink and NYCEve don't support health care reform? I don't think they take orders from anyone, or don't write their own posts.

I supported TooFolkGR's diary and thought that disclosing the basic information was necessary. But what you do here is just a witchhunt and totally dishonest.
