has been blacking out games for years.  I remember when the Bears sucked in the mid 70s.  There was always concern that the game would be blacked out, but someone always bought the remaining tickets. It has also been going on in places where the teams have REALLY sucked.  So this little economic things isn't going to make them any more merciful...

    •  In Cleveland... (0+ / 0-)

Art Modell was such a tightwad, he insisted on selling 6,000 seats in the closed endzone (i.e. around home plate when baseball was playing) at municipal stadium.  Since the goalposts were on the pitchers mound, the closest seat to the endline was 30 yards away.  So, a typical seat in that section would be about 60 yards away from the goalpost in the end zone. But, it gets better... there were massive poles and overhangs to make it even harder to see...  No worries!  Art put up 19" TV monitors in the rafters so you could watch the game on TV, since you couldn't see anything on the field.

Not surprisingly, there were a lot of blackouts 'cos only idiots would buy those putrid seats which were the same price as the dawg pound (some of the best seats in the house).

Meanwhile, you'd watch a San Francisco game and there was a whole section of seats that were not available for sale 'cos of obstructed views.  In Cleveland, obstructed views, apparently, were a luxury tht everyone should pay for...

There is a special place in hell for Art Modell...

DARTH SPECTER: I am altering the deal! Pray I don't alter it any further!
LANDO REID: This deal keeps getting worse all the time!
