my only property was my car

in NC, living in a large city, I paid $103 in property taxes - that's city and county combined

in VA, living in a very small town, I paid $100 to the county and another $79 to the town

plus all the fees... and some of the fees that you pay in both states, like your license plate fee... it was $20 in NC and $40 in VA.  but I paid fees in VA that i'd never heard of before. Plus I paid a bunch of fees to the schools for my daughter to attend, which I never had to pay in NC.

so, i paid a lot more for government in va and got a lot less for the money.

when you leave out the fees, it DOES look like the two are similar... but people in VA think they're paying less in taxes... they are not.

I have come to the conclusion that politics are too serious a matter to be left to the politicians. Charles DeGaulle
