I was presented with an endless list of organizations and asked if I had ever been a member of any of them. I was 18. Of course, I gave the list only a cursory glance but to this day I remember my eyes fixing on one - The Abraham Lincoln Brigade and thinking to my apolitical self: WTF?

Healthcare is a human right, not a commodity.

So in 1968 they US military was still asking about the Lincolns. That's rich.

If any of you want to read a fantastic book then please read "Another Hill" by Milton Wollf. Its right up there with "All Quiet on the Western Front" as my favorite war books.

"Another Hill" is about Americans in Spain and gives a great solders view of combat. The scene were the Americans are being dive bombed by Nazi Stukha's (first operation use of Stukha's) is remarkably well written. I can't recommend the book enough.
