    most people are going to be forced to buy into their employer-provided coverage, so they're not going to be able to comparison shop.

    Second, it's ludicrous to suggest that insurance companies aren't going to use the fact that they'll be forced to provide coverage to people with pre-existing conditions as a pretext for raising premiums.  That's why it's essential to have a robust public option, to provide competitive pressure on the insurance companies.

    Third, the taxes on high-end plans either won't be passed on specifically to the customers buying high-priced plans, which means that they'll be paid by everyone who does business with that company, or they will be, in which case fewer customers will buy into these policies - which means less revenue from those taxes, which means that the money to fund Baucuscare will have to come from somewhere else.
