MUSICAL NOTES - singer John Lydon - a/k/a Johnny Rotten - plans to re-form his post-Sex Pistols band Public Image - for which The Guardian writes an "In Praise Of" editorial.

VIDEO NOTES - despite the buzz over the new Beatles Rock Band video game: several oldsters (like the Stones' Bill Wyman and Pink Floyd's Nick Mason) wish kids would practice their own instruments, instead.

I hope he doesn't blow in PiL as much as he did in the Sex Pistols reform. ;-)

the legendary jazz drummer, who learned several instruments in Band and Music classes in L.A. public school in the 1940's.  Roach hated the advent of rap and hip/hop; he saw an entire generation of young people performing with no understanding of music.

Roach commented that if we don't like what's happened to pop music, we can blame ourselves.  Lack of support for arts programs in schools is just one way we starve our children.

It is scarcely possible to conceive of the laws of motion if one looks at them from a tennis ball's point of view. (Brecht)

on this one -- as much as I still love the Fab Four, we need the next generation of rockers to drown out some of the insipid trash currently on the nation's airwaves (been listening a lot to Deep Tracks on XM).

Civility is the way of telling someone to go fuck themselves in such a way that the someone agrees it probably is a good idea.
