  •  Alan Turing was one of the greatest geniuses (4+ / 0-)

who ever lived. He's right up there with Newton and Einstein and Goethe. A good case could be made that if he had not had to devote his best years to war, and if he had not been essentially murdered by the British government for being gay, he might have gone on to be recognized as the greatest intellect of all time.

Mr. Brown's apology is decades too late. But it is sincere and complete and well done. I'm very happy to see this news.

Turing had an amazing and ultimately very tragic life. He's worth learning about!

Creepy thought: He died just a few weeks before I was born. I've had occasion, while thoroughly "illuminated" as we used to say in college, to ponder whether I'm not some kind of reincarnation of him (I always had the thought there might be numerous doubles). As a Catholic, I don't really believe in that stuff. I really don't. But for what it's worth, ever since I first learned about him as a young child (I probably first read about him about 1964...I was sort of a child prodigy) I've had this strange feeling of connection.

Anyway, forget that, read the biography of a very great man!

a huge change in attitude towards gays. Wasn't being gay illegal in the UK until relatively recently?
