  •  another thing to note is the occasional (none)
extraordinary open thread discussion real-time... the primary debates, Condi's lyin'-on-TV 9/11 testimony (that was midweek, mid-day yet it got more than 400 comments and TJ had to post a second, which got as many comments as the first - big numbers, in those days), and the recent Istook amendment open thread/diary when we all watched the CSPAN 2 senate debate on the omnibus bill.

You get a real sense of community from those.

    •  The Istook Debate (none)
Was the first of the real-time threads I caught, and I felt an amazing sense of togetherness from it - it was nice to know that there were other people out there who were watching, and were feeling as outraged (and at moments, humored) as I was from it. It came on as I was about to leave the house to go study...and didn't get turned off. For a good few hours, my screen was split into three - C-SPAN, Kos, and SSH (to get some work done, since I couldn't go study).

It was strangely like going out with some friends to a bar to watch the debates - everyone collapsing into laughter as Ted Stephens self-distructed (or GWB asked us if we'd like some wood).
