    That's what I say when I recite the Pledge of Allegiance. There is no need for "under God," and it isn't in the original version of the Pledge.

    I disagree that the majority should rule here and the minority should just bend over. That's what the Bill of Rights is for, to prevent the tyranny of the majority.

    That said, I find this ritual of allegiance to be a strange one in a country governed by a document that guarantees freedom of speech and conscience.

    Allegiance IS as allegiance DOES. But any attempt to eliminate, replace or even modify the Pledge of Allegiance would be met by howls of angry protest from the Right, and would feed all kinds of conspiracy theories about Obama.

    For now, I'm good with "one nation under law."
