  •  why would anyone be surprised? (0+ / 0-)

if people are using race to divide and conquer, seems to me like it's an equal opportunity tool to be used by anyone. It's kind of humorous at this point to insinuate race has no place in politics, when for some, it appears to be their only issue in politics.

    •  Doesn't mean it is acceptable (6+ / 0-)

We are not the tea party movement.  Of course race has a place in politics, but racism does not.

What has been is what will be, and what has been done is what will be done, and there is nothing new under the sun.

      •  Not acceptable .. (0+ / 0-)

tell that to Pat Buchanan, Lou Dobbs..etal and the entirety of the Republican party. People continue to allow these people to set the tone, and create our collective reality. Not acceptable. Yeah right.

        •  we do tell them. Over and over. (0+ / 0-)

Steven Douglass as spoken of it. So has Truman. As have others we all know. They didn't quit. Will you?

          •  Quit what? (0+ / 0-)

acknowledging reality? Tit for tat is not the solution for sure. But at this's kind of hard for me to get all worked up. Hopefully the people of that community will see it, and reject it for what it is. Or..succumb to the deliberate attacks on they and theirs because of the color of their skin. I don't think Turman and Douglass are going to do much for what is happening today.

        •  It may be acceptable among conservatives... (3+ / 0-)

But it sure as hell shouldn't be acceptable among progressives.

at the state of the repub party and the regular ridicule they're receiving.
This is unacceptable, it doesn't matter WHO is doing it!

          •  I don't know.. (0+ / 0-)

how is the Republican Party doing in Tennessee? I totally agree it is unacceptable to use race, religion or gender to be used for political purpose. That's probably why our representatives clearly reflect the people that elect them.

despite recent scandals. They are holding regular rallies at the legislative plaza here in Nashville. They are just generally being pain in the asses.

They capture control of the legislature last year and have just been trying to push through inane culture war laws.

Luckily, they are the fringe of the fringe. The local alternative paper, the Nashville Scene, just ran a cover that said something like "You're so Nashville if the local GOP makes the KKK look like the ACLU".
