introduced just to be an example that there is no long term damage to being a whore.  The truth about how one really feels comes through when one is not noticing.

The statement "and no one has any idea what she used to do outside of her family" is more telling about how the narator feels about it than how the whore feels about it.

The narrator has no idea who knows and who does not know that she was a whore, she herself, dosn't know who her customers may have told or not told.  It's a small world.

The narrator wants to prove how well adjusted the whore is today and the statement was an attempt to cover the shame and nakedness of his/her stepsister's former life.
