    The one that's being used as a model, Group Health in Seattle.

    OK, it's not so bad. But it took 30 years for it to become a regional player.

    To set one up like it, you'd have to go out and buy a few hospitals, and numerous regional clinics. Then you would need to hire thousands of doctors, nurses and others in scores of medical disciplines.

    The end result is an HMO, with limited choice as to providers. Somewhat cheaper perhaps, but not by much.

    This coop thing would require one hell of a lot of expense and effort.

    Why not just open up Medicare?
