  •  Hallelujah! Great news (8+ / 0-)

I'm 43 and will be paying off grad school for another 10-12 years at my measly salary. And that was from when school was relatively cheap. Anything we can do to help new graduates and students start out with the right terms and conditions is so necessary.

As a volunteer tax preparer (and as a tax payer), I would also suggest the relatively simple change from being able to take up to $2500 of interest to adjust gross income and instead make that a dollar for dollar number. Every year my interest adds up to closer to $5000. That extra $2500 could help me. The question I can't answer is, what would the inverse effect be? It's an exponentially lower taxable income, but is it low enough to help me and hurt the greater tax pull?

I just love Tom Harkin. How lucky you Iowans are to have him.
