    the people of that state sent a message. Of course we all know that many people in California were reviled by that message, but still, when you do a statewide election and people make this choice - message sent.

    In other states, gay rights are so far behind the question isn't even asked, so Maine and california are certainly well ahead of those places. But a ballot measure passed by the people is a form of speech to the world. Hopefully Mainers will be smarter than average and pick up on this and realize they don't want to say "fuck you" to all gay people ever. Californians didn't figure that out in time.
