  •  Look, from their point of view it's not hypocricy (0+ / 0-)

The Government has stolen from them, in the form of coercive taxation backed by the threat of force, since they were born.  Partaking of the services is just getting back a pittance of what the State has stolen from them.

Well then, how does that square with their displeasure that more money hasn't been spent on the DC Metro now that all of a sudden they had to confront the reality of big city transportation. Which was the core of their complaining....

Not to mention that if they hadn't insisted on bringing all their signs with them, they'd have gotten more people into each car.

And to "understand" their point of view doesn't make it any less hypocritical.
      Or funny.

They've paid far more than its worth in taxes, and gotten piss-poor service in return.  If DC Metro were privatized it would have been more efficient, and if it weren't, they'd have more money in their pockets (having not been stolen by the aforementioned taxation) to pay for cab fare.

My point isn't that they're right.  My point is that their complaints fit neatly into their world view.  This pledge would make no sense to them.  They (those who have put at least a modicum of thought into their position) would respond by saying "why shouldn't I get back some of what the State has stolen from me?  Should I let the State just keep it all?"

and pay taxes? Seems like most are blind to the idea that any minority in America also works and has the right to some security from catastrophe.

      "Just us" justice in action.

This bagger entitlement, wanting "something back" just because they "put in the work and paid for it" smacks of "those folks."

You know, the folks that point out that slave labor built much of Southern America, and immigrant labor has always done a massive amount of work, all for the lazier wealthy, and that generations of slave and immigrant labor should have a pay-back element.

Heaven forfend! Are these 'baggers asking for some kind of general welfare for work in (gasp!) reparations?
