  •  Damn, treating the poor and homeless (7+ / 0-)
    with dignity, respect, and caring.

What a novel approach. Why some might think they are even human beings.

Thank you for this. Thank you very much.

Phillip's birthday cake. There's a story there, as there are with so many homeless.

souls. They can look right through the homeless anymore and not give a damn.

Between 2:30 and 3:00 every day a van comes to the corner of 14th and Farnam everyday during the week with sandwiches and water for the homeless. They gather there on the corner across from the downtown library. It just breaks my heart. If I ever see anyone there with a child I've already told myself that I'll bring them home with me. It's not like I haven't done it before. And so has my oldest. Well, she brought a guy walking at midnight on one of the coldest nights of the year here. We put him in my basement. There was a couch down there, it was warm, we gave him food. The drawback was he was drunk and it didn't turn out well. He made a 'pass' at Carrie so he had to leave. He was taken to a shelter.

So that's where I shifting to plan B. I have no problem with sharing my house. But I will only do it with a woman and child, or an elderly person. No more young guys who are freezing and walking down the street at midnight.

liked the fact that the volunteers are encouraged to use hand sanitizer not because the guests are dirty, but because they are vulnerable. These folks could actually become sickened by a volunteer who may be considered to be more healthy than the homeless guest, but because the guest may be sleeping out or in a crowded shelter where they are exposed to immunity-crushing conditions, the sanitary measures are entirely necessary.

        Impressive.

Anytime you think you are a person of power and authority, try ordering someone else's dog around.
