  •  nice to see you again, LoE (7+ / 0-)

Pretty amazing what you accomplished. Pombo just seems like a really bad dream now.

    •  That was a big effort. (19+ / 0-)

Hunter, kid oakland and Devilstower all wrote terrific pieces against Pombo.  Hunter on him being connected to the extreme property-rights fringe; kid oakland came up with the slogan "We all live in Pombo's district"; and Devilstower wrote a great thing called "How Richard Pombo Saved the World.

It was very gratifying, though, to get emails from Bay Area folks who went out to CA-11 to canvass.  Thanking me for my published research, that it make then confident that they were ready to field questions that arose.

It was a good thing to be a part of.  I do give the biggest credit to Pete McCloskey, who "softened the target" in the Republican primary, then campaigned for McNerney in the election.  He was POed that Pombo was trying to destroy his legacy as co-author (when in Congress back in the 70s) of the Endangered Species Act.  He rented an apartment in Lodi, and at (about) age 80, spent several months hammering on the guy.  Made it "safe" for other Republicans to follow him in abandoning party loyalty in favor of "giving Pombo the boot."  Our own Kossack Malacandra did a great job of running McNerney's website.  And kid oakland was a key player in organizing people from the East Bay to canvass in the district.

It was a good effort to be a part of.  I can die knowing I did something useful kinda good effort.

      •  That district's still not safe. (0+ / 0-)

McNerny may face stiff GOP competition in 2010.

        •  I've been thinking I should send him some $$. (0+ / 0-)

I think he's a pretty good match for the district, all told.  And if he can hang on for 2010, redistricting might help him some after that.
