  •  Stanford Medical Group did that WITHIN (3+ / 0-)

    their own HMO group.
My PCP had referred me to a specialist within their own facility.  After I'd seen the specialist, their billing department tried to charge me as if I had not gotten the approved referral.  I called and left messages (which were never returned) trying to get their attention.  It wasn't until I Faxed the billing dept. a copy of the approved referral I had that they "corrected" the charge.  Apparently they were betting I was the type who didn't retain  records.
And that was the lesser of the offenses Stanford Med. did against me.  I left them shortly thereafter.
You'd think a group affiliated with a medical facility with one of the better reputations in the country would behave better.
