    Sometimes the Swedes were in charge and sometimes the Danes were in charge. --Sen is Danish and --Son is Swedish.

    But the other thing is that spelling was pretty fluid in the old days.

    I have one relative whose name was spelled "Olaf" or "Olav" or "Oluf." And there a farm that was spelled "Haugdahl" or "Hodal" or "Hodalen."

    And there are sort of two official languages of Norwegian. Bokmal (book language) is based on the Danish (upper class) language, whereas Nynorsk (new Norsk) is based on the way people talk (which simplifies things, but gives you the idea).

    Listen, strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.
