  •  Sounds like you haven't. (0+ / 0-)

The committee said pretty much what I said --

Gee, we know he hasn't really done anything, but we're real darned sure that he's going to.

Hope and ambition are great things.
Hope and ambition realized are greater still.

Not to mention a shooting war in Afghanistan.

Free speech? Yeah, I've heard of that. Have you?

Unlike the other Nobel Prizes, which recognize completed scientific or literary accomplishment, the Nobel Peace Prize may be awarded to persons or organizations that are in the process of resolving a conflict or creating peace. As some such processes have failed to create lasting peace, some Peace Prizes appear questionable in hindsight

      So the questions of:

      Too early?

      What solid results

      are not valid.

However questions as to process are perfectly valid.

The award is not a sanction, at most it will push our President to take his place in world peace and war very seriously.

Maybe it will take 10-20 years for you to get it.

Plus, what did carter actually achieve in his quest?
Nothing, but the fact that he made the effort won him the award.
      And he deserved it.

      •  He got a Peace Agreement (3+ / 0-)

between Israel and Egypt that was honored by both sides. He didn't get peace throughout the Middle East, but the treaty he brokered between Egypt and Israel was very successful.

Plus all the other great things he's accomplished with disease eradication and Habitat for Humanity and election monitoring and such.

I get your point, but Carter is a bad choice for an example on this.

and did not mean to demean Carter, I love my Jimmy Carter.

My point is, if we put this much stake in the award (and its not even our award to judge) then eventually these awards would only be given post mortum.

Methinks it just boils up the brains of right wingers and blue dogs, since this award seems to skip their ranks year after year.
