Whatever you think of Hamsher, Glenn Greenwald has more integrity in his fingernail than most people around here have at all, and to lump him with David Sirota is to expose oneself as a vapid reactionary interested more in hating people critical of Obama than in actually discussing the merits. Sirota is an idiot.

An idiot?  Hardly.  Slink's interest is health care, and Sirota's is populist economics.  And Obama's done about as much on financial reform as he's done on gay rights: pretty speeches but no action.

    •  Sorry, Sirota really is an idiot. (1+ / 0-)

Did you see his WATB GBCW diary? The guy specializes in divisive rhetoric over who the real “movement progressives” are, then goes all high-school drama over people criticizing him. Contrast to someone like Greenwald who writes about actual policy and doesn't really care if people are mean to him.

He might well not be an idiot where policy is concerned, but as a contributor to the liberal activist cause, David “ZOMG READ MY NATOINALLY SYNDICATED COLUMN!!!!!!” Sirota really is pretty useless.

Did you see the dozen detractors pop into every one of his diaries, attacking him personally, for months?  Did you see them harp on Sirota's self-promotion, a hilarious bit if irony given how often Kos promotes his own books and columns and media appearances?  If they disliked Sirota so much, why did they see the need to trash each of his diaries instead of ignoring them?

It's like a bad flashback from high school, where a clique decides to harass someone for no particular reason.  And just like in high school, when the object of the harassment lashes back, he's the one who is castigated.  Which makes no damn sense - just why should we be hating on an economic populist that manages to get published AND give the occasional smackdown on Fox?

Good stuff starts about 4:00 in.

Obviously you haven't seem some of the flame wars on his letters page on Salon, then.  Glenn can get quite, quite snippy - he's just cooler than Sirota.

Hell, the same thing has happened to Slinkerwink - remember the reason why she made "I work full-time with the FDL team on health reform thanks to your donations." her new sig?

        •  Sirota took his ball and went home (0+ / 0-)

and wrote a whiny GBCW on his way out. Not exactly a good way to prove you're better than a bunch of high-schoolers.

(Besides, you've got it backward. Sirota was a bully, pure and simple, only one with astonishingly thin skin. If he said it's cold out but it's warm, and you deigned to correct him, he'd accuse you of shilling for the sunscreen industry. Greenwald does not do that.)

Finally, snippiness isn't my problem at all. Just so long as it's substantive.
