    ...we would get "lucky," and some improbable-but-not-impossible set of factors would have together to make the North Pole were ice-free one of the last few summers.

    I figured that that film of people tooling around on jet-skis at the North Pole would really grab peoples' attention.

    Alas, the Arctic hasn't given us such a teachable moment -- yet.

    Hopefully we'll get a big, dramatic "warning shot" of some kind -- a "holy shit!" moment -- while there's still time to ameliorate the worst.

    When it happens, the footage from the North Pole Web Cam of water encroaching, encroaching, then -- bloop! -- as the camera goes into the drink will be pretty popular, I bet.
