    does anybody refer to him as "Da Vinci" instead of Leonardo.  It's not snobbery, it's just a fact.

      but left it in the title because of space considerations.  I can't think of a good short title that gets Leonardo Da Vinci and La Bella Principessa in there without cutting off some words.

      I'm sorry, I have fancypants academic degrees, and my specialty in Early Modern European Cultural History, as a matter of fact. I'm actually quite persnickety when it comes to matters of language. But I just can't get worked up over this...whether we refer to him as da Vinci or Leonardo, or Leonardo da Vinci. And as a writer, there is no one I currently despise more than Dan Brown. But he's not to blame for this either.
