  •  Gay? Where is this from? nt (0+ / 0-)
    •  He was totally gay. (0+ / 0-)

In 1476, he was accused anonymously, along with three other men, of sodomy with a 17 year-old model, Jacopo Saltarelli, who was a notorious male prostitute. After two months in jail, he was acquitted because no witnesses stepped forward.

I suspect the reason no one stepped forward was two of the other men charged were Medicis.  The case was ultimately dismissed.  However, it is notable that after that, one of Leonardo's earliest inventions appears in his notebooks.  It's a mechanism for tearing the bars off a window from inside :)

If you doubt the guy was phobic about women just look at his female anatomy.  Check out the last image on this page. His drawing of reproductive organs is nonsense...but clearly depicts a devil-like skull with horns.  His drawings of the vagina are also strangely suspect.  here.

Then there is the case of his boy-toy, Salai.  He is reputed to have been the model for Michelangelo's David.  Michelangelo was also gay.
