    I suspect what you're referring to is the so-called "Medieval Warm Period" or "Medieval Climatic Anomaly."  In fact there is reasonably good evidence that the "warm" aspect of this anomaly was largely a regional effect of the North Atlantic, eastern North America and Europe.  There is no good evidence I am aware of that the global temperature was as high as it is today.
