  •  Since politicians have discredit environmentalist (0+ / 0-)

    since day one...

I don't think it's denial. When 30% of elected Republicans say they don't believe in Global Warming is to start the discussion in a strong position. If they agree, they have to come up with ideas to solve it, if not, they just say 'NO'. This is exactly the same tactic Mahmoud Ahmadinejad uses to argument against Israel right to exist: he denies the Holocaust.

Democracy is based on what people want WHEN they have the facts right, despite ideologies. If they don't, they are being manipulated. We said we need them, we do. We need them to be informed. If there is a law that can be bipartisan in the US, it is a law that, at least, accept that we must do something about global warming.

After reform, Medicare must cover all: a) People under 18 years-old; b) Pregnant women until their new child(ren) is(are) 2 years-old.

    •  Democracy is based on what people think (0+ / 0-)

whether it makes any sense or not (see war, Iraq).  It's not about being "right" at all, it's about persuading people to agree with you.  If the bad guys do a better job of persuading, we lose.  Simple as that.

We need to be practical to be effective.

I can't think of anybody who's ever changed my mind about anything by yelling at me and telling me how morally superior they are.

      •  I didn't say 'right', I said 'facts right'. (0+ / 0-)

        That's why I gave Ahmadinejad's example.

About Global Warming is that simple. Get the facts right: global warming is happening and it is a threat.
After that, discuss how to tackle the problem. Some will persuade to do one way (theirs 'right' way), other will persuade to do the other (theirs 'right' way).

When the bad guys lie about global warming, they are not persuading, they are lying.

That's why I 'applause' Sen. Lindsey Graham. He embraces the fact that global warming is happening and that it is bad. Of course he is in the mix to water down the bill and allow more fossil consumption, but it's better than having him on the denial side.
