  •  NY-23 is inconsequential (0+ / 0-)

It's a pretty part of the world, if you visit between June and early September when it's not iced over. But it's never going to be a Dem stronghold in our lifetimes, so any semblance of a D vote we can get from up there for the next year is a nice little extra bonus, nothing more nor less.

New policy: I will immediately un-rec any diary that's updated with "Wow! The REC LIST! I never imagined..."

and make it a Dem stronghold.  Take the current Democratic majority, subtract out all those who represent "inconsequential" districts, and see what you have left.  Or start with"Dem strongholds" and add "consequential" districts.  No way to win/keep a majority.

By the way, I live in Nydia Velazquez's district, so it's as consequential a dem stronghold as you can get.

We may not be the bluest district in the state, but we aren't exactly Oklahoma either. Don't discount the Democrats up here. Obama won this district, even though Republican presidential candidates previously won handily. We're right next to liberal bastions like Canada and Vermont, and we interact with these people all the time. Their attitudes affect ours. We see gay marriage is not destroying society in Vermont. We see universal health care is working out just fine up in Canada. The district is getting bluer every year, and there's no reason it can't be made into a Dem stronghold.

Today is the day that connects everything that ever happened with everything that ever will happen. Use it wisely.

    •  As I wrote upthread... (0+ / 0-)

My county legislature is majority democrat. My state assembly(wo)man is democrat. My state senator is democrat. The majority of district voters voted for the democratic candidate in the last two US senate elections. And the majority voted for Obama. And I live in the heart of NY-23 (St. Lawrence County).

Maybe not a Democratic stronghold, but Democrats can be competitive.
