and on top of that, do you know why the progressives always cave? They really care, and so something that will help in big way is a whole lot better than nothing. When people falling over dead in the street leaves you unmoved, it's easy to "stick to your principles".

Besides, if I understand it right, the real way the Senate bill covers more people isn't the vaunted "public option" at all, it's by expanding an existing program. Medicaid. If I am not mistaken, the bill included a provision to extend coverage to more folks by raising the income caps. That's why the Repugs have bleated about "States going bankrupt", ordinarily, the State has to pick up a hefty part of any Medicaid tab. So, if the Fed raises income electability levels it would effect States, except I think the bill specifies that the Feds will pick up the whole tab for this expansion.

I think that is why Howard Dean was so pleased with where we are at, he even brought up the fact that eventually he was able to get almost all of the kids in Vermont covered by expanding existing programs. His only quibble is the timetable, he wants the implementation moved up of course.

See, this really is how the Dems get stuff done. Get something through in the first place, SS, Medicare, Medicaid, S-chip, and now maybe a public option. And then build on it, layer by layer.

“At the end of the day, we have to pass something.”

What an inspiration. Should really set voters on fire next year, especially if we have to wait four, five, six years to see any benefits. I can hardly wait. Seriously, I can hardly wait. I haven't had insurance for seven years. By the time anything kicks in I'll be on Medicare. Way to come through, Dems.

American democracy: One dollar, one vote. See? Equality!

proven once again that they can bully progressives. How are they gonna judge a progressive stand next time? By their continual cave-ins. And Pelosi knew this and counted on it to get a bill out. She knew who would cave.

        •  He was on the Ed Schultz show (0+ / 0-)

It was Thursday. If you are an Air America subscrier you could listen to it.

It was very disheartening. I really thought he would stand strong. But I think the White House is putting pressure and he won't go up against them. (this is a guess)

He said it's not the most important thing in getting the bill passed. we can't let it stop us from getting reform if it isn't as strong as we want.

I would love to hear it again myself. But talking all around the public option. So sad.
