  •  I don't know. (18+ / 0-)

I don't think the filibuster is all THAT bad.  I do think it shouldn't be quite as easy as it is.  We should go back to the days where senators were forcd to stand and talk for hours on end to hold a filibuster.

Health insurance companies are nothing more than middle management money launderers. Why, oh why, do we accept that?

...majority.  Many many laws have been past in the senate by fewer than 60 votes.

The only difference is IF someone evokes a filibuster.

While it is now a matter of reflex (on the republican side), it has not always been so and it is not meant to be so.

Dems weren't filibustering everything under the sun, even though the Republicans had a much narrower majority, and a much weaker mandate.

Somehow the Republican Senate managed to send odious bills to the Shrub despite not having 60 votes.

Clearly, I need to find a witty sig line.

      •  Not all presidents need 50.1%. (1+ / 0-)

For others, a simple majority isn't enough, in either the popular or the electoral vote.

It's not very dignified to see legislators reading from a cook book to determine the outcome of legislation.

There isn't a single good reason for the filibuster. It should be killed. The Dems should kill it at the start of the next Congress. If they don't, I have to wonder about how serious they are about governing.
