  •  And a point I keep trying to make is that (6+ / 0-)

thinking this election is between a moderate GOP'er and a Blue Dog Democrat -- i.e. not a hill bean's difference between the two

is never the case with the Republican party so malignant.

Citizenship voting is not a high school popularity, "like" the candidate contest. Those that view elections and their vote that way get the governance that is often so dismal--and often those of us working with a more strategic sense are along for the dismal ride.

We are like an isolated frontier family dependent on our plot. We may not have a food crop we "like" and it may not be all that strong a crop in the garden but we'd damn well better weed the inedibles or we will suffer. So, taking the attitude a Blue Dog Democrat that even occasionally votes our way and gives leadership power as "not a hill bean's difference" is like sitting around watching the weeds take over your winter food supply.

    •  and Creigh is very much NOT a Blue Dog (8+ / 0-)

he comes from a conservative part of the state, but has been willing to listen to the needs of more liberal parts.

And he is willing to raise taxes on a bipartisan basis to improve transportation because without fixing our transportation mess, especially in NoVa and Hampton Roads, the state will (a) begin to lose its reputations as well run and as a good place for business, and (b) begin to see a real decrease in the ability to raise the revenue necessary for all the services the people want and need.

Bath County doesn't need more roads.  Creigh is willing to see taxes across the state because improving roads benefits the entire state.

And he is insistent on protecting public transportation.

This diary is about Steve, but I do not want people to have a wrong perception of Creigh.

do we still have a Republic and a Constitution if our elected officials will not stand up for them on our behalf?

      •  If some people think they can sit this one out (4+ / 0-)

because they think Deeds is a Blue Dog and there is "not a hill bean's difference between the two" they had damn well wake up his opponent is not the moderate he pretends and some really bad stuff is riding GOP top ticket coattails.

    •  Voting is a hiring decision... (4+ / 0-)

...not a Pledge of Allegiance.   I strongly agree with you, Pelagric, and look forward to a diary from you on this point after the election.  I think this would be a very useful conversation to start here on DK.
