  •  Lesson from yesterday? (5+ / 0-)

Tonight proved conclusively that we're not going to turn out just because you have a (D) next to your name, or because Obama tells us to. We'll turn out if we feel it's worth our time and effort to vote, and we'll work hard to make sure others turn out if you inspire us with bold and decisive action.

But, Obama didn't tell anyone to vote in Maine.  The major complaint here today about the "NO on 1" campaign that Obama refused to spend ANY political capital on the effort there.  If he had, that might have made a difference.  And that was the most progressive issue in front of voters last night, in a fairly progressive state.

Sorry, but I just don't see Kos' assertion backed up with the facts of last night.

Independents went for Obama overwhelmingly in 2008.  Now they are switching to voting for Repubs. It tells me that Independents are rejecting Democratic initiatives and policies.

kos and BarbinMD are dead wrong.  We know what Repubs and far right conservatives think.. it's the moderates and independents that should be watched.  and what they said yesterday is they are tired of high taxes and deficit spending.  85% in VA and 89% in NJ said the economy were the most important issues.  Health care comes in a distant 3rd or 4th when most folks are polled (often under 20%), yet where has all the focus been in Washington?

I don't know how many politicians will follow the advice to "be more progressive" in the next year.. unless they want to lose.  Should be interesting though..

Of course, all that said, never underestimate the ability of Republicans to shoot themselves in the foot!
