  •  Respectfully disagre with Markos on this one (3+ / 0-)

This is not a base problem. The base of the Democratic party is getting pretty well fed with health care reform, cap and trade and so on. The problem is the laid back approach Obama is showing on job creation. He talks about it way too passively like it's an equal problem to the others. It's not. The economy is the main and central issue in this country by a factor of 100. It's why he got elected. The economy was breaking down leading up to the election and the Republicans were blamed. Now we are going to be.

    •  It was a base problem in NJ (4+ / 0-)

Please check the numbers.  Very poor turn out amongst key groups that trend Democratic.  I can't speak to VA.

I find your lack of faith disturbing -- message to ConservaDems.

      •  The independents are leaning more Republican (0+ / 0-)

because of the economy, deficits and the sense that we are completely out of control fiscally. That's fired up the Republican base for sure, but it also is moving independents into the Republican column. We need independents and they are waxing Republican. If the economy recovers the Democrats will do really well next year, if the economy does not recover, it's 1994 all over again.

    •  Over-Promising/Under-Delivering Is BAD, FOLKS! (0+ / 0-)

REAL PEOPLE are REALLY SUFFERING out here in the heartland.

They don't want a healthcare system that's going to cost them MORE, they want JOBS, and they want them NOW...

Obama is being perceived as doing ABSOLUTELY JACK SQUAT about it, as well. Remember those promised 600,000 summer jobs? What happened?

We have about 6 months to wake up, or you can kiss the whole spirit of change thing GOOD-BYE...

      •  If it were that easy everyone including Bush (0+ / 0-)

would have done it.  Yes, he should be out talking about it more, but there is no more money left for stimulus so he has no tools to magically make jobs appear.  More overspending will only embolden the independent/teabagger tendencies of the electorate.

in regards to job creation -- the states have to do their part as well by funding their own projects (whether it's highway repair, retrofitting state/local offices to be more energy efficient, or what have you). And reports are that the stimulus has created or saved up to 650,000 jobs...and those "saved" jobs aren't going to show up in any unemployment figures.

Civility is the way of telling someone to go fuck themselves in such a way that the someone agrees it probably is a good idea.
