  •  The young voters were energized by something (1+ / 0-)

and Deeds offered nothing to get energized about.  Yes in 2008 it was Obama, even if he is turning out to be much more like Bush than the next Kennedy.  But midterm elections are base elections, and Deeds did not energize the base, young voters, old voters, black voters, white voters, green voters or purple voters.

Obama in 2012 will have 4 years of record to deal with, and the youngsters who voted based on his rhetoric, what he symbolized, and his general perceived awesomeness, will not be there for him ... without delivering on something in terms of principles.

    •  Bush, really? Don't want to get into a side (3+ / 0-)

argument, but you can show disappointment in the man without calling him "like Bush".

There are those who look at things the way they are, and ask why... I dream of things that never were, and ask why not? - Robert Kennedy

spying, rendition, state secrets, torturing and keeping people in prison without being charged ... those are all well in line with the previous guy.  And DADT/DOMA sounds better, but has not substantively changed.
